Biomed Industries Presents Phase 2 Results for Oral NA-931 at Obesity Science and Innovation Conference in Boston
Investigational quadruple receptor agonist demonstrated 13.8% mean weight reduction at 13 weeks in the highest-dose group, with findings suggesting potential lean-mass preservation
SAN JOSE, Calif., September 26, 2026 — Biomed Industries, Inc. (“Biomed”), a biopharmaceutical company developing treatments for metabolic and neurological diseases, announced that Lloyd L. Tran, PhD, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, presented Phase 2 clinical findings for NA-931 at the Obesity Science and Innovation conference, held September 23–24, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Tran’s presentation, titled “NA-931, A Novel Quadruple IGF-1, GLP-1, GIP and Glucagon Receptor Agonist Reduces Body Weight Without Muscle Loss,” highlighted weight-loss efficacy, tolerability, and body-composition findings for Biomed’s investigational oral, once-daily treatment. The presentation was coauthored by Fern D. Vu, BS, and Zung V. Tran, PhD.
NA-931 is being developed as a small-molecule agonist targeting four receptors: insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), and glucagon. Its development strategy combines metabolic receptor activity with IGF-1 receptor signaling, which Biomed is investigating for its potential role in preserving muscle during weight reduction.
PHASE 2 CLINICAL RESULTS
The 13-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study enrolled 125 adults with obesity or overweight and weight-related comorbidities. Participants received oral NA-931 at 60, 90, 120, or 150 mg once daily, or placebo.
Key findings presented included:
- 13.8% mean body-weight reduction in the 150 mg group, compared with 1.9% in the placebo group, representing an 11.9-percentage-point placebo-adjusted difference (p=0.001).
- 11.3% mean body-weight reduction in the 120 mg group, representing a 9.4-percentage-point placebo-adjusted difference (p=0.002).
- A dose-related weight-loss response, with mean reductions of 5.5% and 8.7% in the 60 mg and 90 mg groups, respectively.
- Pooled gastrointestinal adverse-event rates among the 96 NA-931-treated participants of 7.3% for nausea, 5.2% for vomiting, and 6.3% for diarrhea. Reported nausea was mild, and no constipation was reported.
BODY COMPOSITION AND POTENTIAL MUSCLE PRESERVATION
The presentation also reported a 1.7% reduction in lean mass measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Biomed believes these preliminary findings support further investigation of NA-931’s potential to limit lean-mass loss during weight reduction.
DEXA-measured lean mass is not a direct measure of skeletal muscle alone. Larger, longer-duration studies incorporating body-composition and functional assessments will be needed to determine the clinical significance of these findings.
“Successful obesity treatment should address both the amount of weight lost and the quality of that weight loss,” said Dr. Tran. “These Phase 2 findings encourage us to investigate whether NA-931’s quadruple receptor approach can deliver meaningful weight reduction while helping preserve lean mass. Our next priority is to evaluate its efficacy, safety, and body-composition effects in larger, longer-term clinical trials.”
FURTHER CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT
Biomed is advancing NA-931 toward Phase 3 development. The company’s development priorities include sustained weight management, longer-term tolerability, and further evaluation of lean-mass preservation.
NA-931 remains investigational and has not been approved for commercial use. The Phase 2 findings are preliminary and do not establish long-term safety, efficacy, or superiority to other obesity treatments.
